New Contest: Introducing the "Crafters Throwdown!"

Congratulations to Orla who won the gorgeous centerpiece!

And Congratulations to Diane of DK Designs for winning the Throwdown! Geesh she beat me so bad I think I probably owe her 2 cupcakes! All in good fun! Thank you so much for voting everyone. I'm glad you all enjoyed looking a the flowers and hope you'll be inspired to join in the fun the next time when we open up the throwdown to all of you to compete in too! Details to come.

Oh and Diane and I have already scheduled out cupcake winner and loser outing and will be dropping by Kara's cupcake so I can make good on her prize :P

Hey flirty girls and guys! We had a contest inspired by the comments in this Flirty Blog post.

Clay Flower Designer Diane Phillips of DK Designs and I decided to have a fun and friendly competition creating interpretations of the flower in the picture I took below.

Diane created this blossom as her beautiful clay flowers, while I used wire and beads.

Below is what we came up with.

From all of the votes received through Jan. 25th we held a random drawing and chose the winner of the centerpiece below that is a collaboration by DK Designs and The Flirty Bride.

It was all in good fun!

In this competition the loser bought the winner a first place CUPCAKE!

And here was the prize for one of our lucky voters!

  1. LOVE IT! :) I think I should make you a flower arrangement and one for myself because our collaborative work is just TOO GOOD! :) LOL. I wish I was the lucky winner.

  2. I must admit, I'm a sucker for the clay flowers - they're gorgeous! Still, the beadwork is also insanely awesome.

  3. As much as I like Stacie's bead work I find the clay flowers very different and appealing. So, sorry Stacie, I have to go with the clay flowers by DK designs.

  4. My vote is the clay work, but most appreciate the beaded work!

  5. While the clay flowers are breathtaking and so true to life, I think I will vote for the beadwork flowers because the materials are so whimsical and unexpected presented as they are on the real tree branch.

  6. It's very hard to choose. I'm going to have to say the beads. They are so different. It's very hard to say though, the clay flowers look so real.

Can each of the voters get a cupcake too? LOL!

  7. Gotta be loyal to Diane and vote for the clay.

  8. omg.. this was so hard. ultimaely i'd have to go with the beaded ones, the sparkle of the magenta/pink color just grabs me more.

  9. What beautifual work you do individually but put your talents togther and "WOW" is all I can say! I have to agree with Diane when she suggested that you make two extra ones one for her and one for Stacie. I do however want to suggest that you make still a 4th one. You could give it to a girl who NEVER wins anything! Yes, I too would love an arrangement. Well, good luck to the one who does win! Have a great day to all!

  10. I have to go with Stacie's beading, but it was a tough choice! The clay is truly gorgeous as well.

  11. Both of you ladies are awesomely talented! However, I'll have to give my vote to Diane on her beautiful clay rendition :)

  12. I love both designs, but my vote is for the clay flowers. The realism is incredible!

  13. I just wanted to vote for the crafters throwdown. While both pieces are insanely gorgeous, I'm in love with the clay flower recreation, it looks real!

  15. Amazing! I can see why both of your work looks so good together! If I had to choose, I pick the clay flowers. Both beautiful!

  16. I vote for the Clay flowers.
    They are very life like

  17. I love both of them but IF I really have to choose, then I would choose Diane's design since it looks so real! I do like the beads too.... ah..so hard!d

  18. I have to vote for the clay flower, it is more realistic. The bead flower is clever and pretty I still like the clay better. You are both very talented with your creations.

  19. Both creations are a wonderful, but I picked the Clay flower since it's more realistic.

  20. Wow, both versions (clay and beaded) look so good... I am glad I am friends with both of you and don't have to vote - it will be a tough one! :) I love the fact that you can just buy a domain and then design the site just like that! I wish I could do that...

  21. All of them are great! But I do love the beads, coz it's quite unique.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I can appreciate the work that went into both pieces. They are bothgreat! I would vote for the clay flowers because of how realistic it is.

  23. OH my heavens what a dilemma. I think I would have to go with the clay flowers. I have not heard of them before and they really have me intrigued!

Man are you guys talented! Stacie- I am blogging about you tonight and DK- I will add you at a later date!

  24. I've gazed at this creation now for a few days trying to decide who to pick.

While I am a huge fan of Diane's clay flowers due to their realism, I am also a fan of the creation made by Stacie and her bead work.

Working glass seed beads into a floral creation is difficult as well as the creation of the clay flowers. Both designers can be intensely proud or their individual work as well and their collaborative effort on this creation.

It is simply just too hard to choose one over the other! Can my "I like them equally" vote count?? *grin*

  25. While I love the realism of the clay flowers, I have to vote for Stacie because the beads are a harder media in which to work.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I am going to go with the clay flowers by DK Design. Very pretty!

    ReplyDelete
  27. All of the close-up shots really show how much work went into making both beautiful artistic creations. Both are very impressive, but I have to vote for the clay.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I think both designs are incredible...but I have to vote for Diane's Clay flowers.
I am in awe of both of your talents your designs are amazing!

Good luck to both of you!!!

  29. I would like to vote for the clay flowers by Diane.

  32. They're both incredible. There's no way to choose. I would love either one or, even better, I'd love them BOTH (greedy me).

    ReplyDelete
  33. I love the idea of a craft throwdown! It was very hard to pick because both versions are amazing and gorgeous, but I think I'll have to go with the clay flowers -- I found myself leaning towards the computer screen subconciously to smell them!

    ReplyDelete
  34. Wow- what a tough decision. Both are gorgeous. The clay looks very real but I have to vote for the glass beads because they look distintively unique!

    ReplyDelete
  35. I think that the clay one, for me, shows the smoothness of the petals and the delicate beauty of the real thing.

  36. Oh my goodness...the clay flowers are absolutely amazing. Although the bead work is also gorgeous...Ahhh can't pick one...I think both should be combined so it would be even more beautiful than it already is ^-^

  37. I think I like the clay flowers the best. The beaded flowers are gorgeous but the clay seem more real. Great work ladies!

I am in love with the clay flowers....enough that i am going to try and make some for a friend of mine that is getting married. Any suggestions on the best way to start? I live in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

  39. I do love DK Designs piece, but I have to admit, the wrap technique on the beaded flowers, with the glisten from the beads is just amazing, sorry Diane, it's a close call. :)

    ReplyDelete
  40. I love the beaded flowers, but I think the clay ones win this time. I would love to see a bouquet with a combo of beaded and clay flowers...how much depth and interest would that have? So. Beautiful. :)

    ReplyDelete
  41. I think that both of them are amazing. I have wanted to learn how to make the clay flowers and think it is amazing all that you can do with them. But I also like the crystal quality of the beads. So in this case, I am going to vote for the beaded flowers.

    ReplyDelete
  42. I vote for the beadwork flower by The Flirty Bride. It just caught my eye more than the clay flower, although the clay flower is beautiful and very realistic. I also love those dragonflies in the centerpiece, very cute!

  43. I like the clay better than the beads.

  44. I just wanted to vote for the clay vs beaded flowers. It's a close one but I'm going to have to go with the clay version overall. Would be great combined!

  45. Okay- I am voting for the contest itself. Great idea, great title. The Throwdown. Very cool. Love the beads, I heart all things VIBRANT, so if I were to choose what to take home with me today, it would be the beadwork... simply because I love those colors!

  46. Both are extraordinarily stunning and beautiful. I would be honored to be the recipient of the arrangement because it would represent the best of both worlds.

I cast my vote for the clay presentation because of the exquisite simplicity and natural beauty of its design.

Kudos to two very talented artists. Wish you the best.

  48. both pieces of art are so unique and beautiful and I love the personal touches on each piece but since we can only choose ONE .. I vote for Diane's clay flower creations! The buds on the branch are so real looking it's like they're going to bloom before my eyes!
Thank you both for sharing your incredible talents!

  49. The beadwork is original and amazing, but I LOVE the clay flowers. They are incredibly life like and beautiful. I think I'll have to vote for the clay.

  50. Both are unique in their own ways, but I vote for the clay flowers because they are more realistic.
